In 1985, the artists were commissioned by the provincial public art works program to produce a work to be integrated into the exterior wall of gymnasium. Satoshi was impressed by the degree of collaboration on the part of the bricklayers in the project. At first they were sceptical about the plan, particularly about achieving the relief effect; but as the work progressed, they felt better and better about the design, some of the men even starting to sing a oiseau-oiseau song as they worked. Satoshi also remembers how, as the work moved higher and higher up the building and as each new pallet of the bricks reached the top of the scaffold, the bouncing of the plank gave him the shivers.
