In the series typified by this piece, by adding more and more volume, we came to realize the inherent technical and physical constraints in our way of working. We began to consider stone and metal as alternative materials for our sculpture, especially as we live in a region in which granite is available and the infrastructure for working with granite close at hand.

 

In 1990 the Contemporary Sculpture Centre in Tokyo selected this piece as the model for our first stone sculpture, for the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space.
